ONE BOTH AND NEITHER AT ONCE

ONE BOTH AND NEITHER AT ONCE is a video installation by emerging artist Amelia Johannes. Using all three video projection screens at Propaganda Window (Melbourne), Johannes creates a site-specific video installation inspired by her research into twin-based anthropology, cultural heritage and the dualistic nature of identity. Each of the video projections relate to each other to create patterns of reflection, mirroring and doubling across the three projection screens to form a visual sequence that experiments with the windows’ placements and spatial relationship. Video content has been created from extracts of family videos and the capturing of everyday performances and occurrences, which have been fragmented and cropped to create an idiosyncratic installation that experiments with symbolic combinations and repetitive arrangements. The lyrical imagery evokes metaphorical essences and ritualistic rhythms visually questioning the construction of the self through perceptions of sameness and difference.

ONE BOTH AND NETIHER AT ONCE is a multifaceted video installation exploring the uncertainty of identity experienced by the artist, as well as the potential ambiguity perceived by the viewer.

Opening 4 August 6pm 11o Franklin Street
